Alastair McGibbon has extensive work experience in various companies and roles within the technology and semiconductor industry. Alastair is currently working as the Head of Business Development at Space Forge since November 2022. Previously, they served as the Head of Business Development at Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult from March 2021 to November 2022.

From 2018 to 2022, Alastair held roles at Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult, including Head of Collaborative R&D starting in November 2019 and Business Development Manager - Power Electronics from January 2018 to November 2019.

Prior to that, they were a Board Director at Technology Scotland from August 2015 to December 2017. Alastair worked as the CTO at TechWorks from October 2011 to December 2017, where they played a crucial role in supporting R&D activities and advocating for members' interests.

Alastair also has experience at TUV SUD, where they served as the Group Manager and UK FP7 National Contact Point. In this role from June 2005 to August 2011, they were responsible for managing a consulting group and supporting public sector innovation and funding schemes.

Alastair began their career as a Business Development Consultant at the National Microelectronics Institute in 2004. Before that, they worked as Deputy Director at Chartered Semiconductor in Singapore from 1999 to 2003. Alastair also gained experience in integration and process development at National Semiconductor from 1995 to 1999.

Alastair's earliest work experience was as a Research Associate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory from 1993 to 1995.

Alastair McGibbon completed their education at two institutions. Alastair attended Bearsden Academy from 1976 to 1981, but it is unclear whether they obtained a degree or pursued any specific field of study during this period. Following their time at Bearsden Academy, they enrolled at the University of Glasgow in 1981 and remained there until 1989. At the University of Glasgow, they focused their studies on Solid State Physics and successfully earned a Ph.D. degree.
