Derek Hazen is a Senior Propulsion Engineer at Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX), where they have been since 2019. As Chief Engineer for the Hopper Development Vehicle's 150m hop and Lead Engineer for several Starship systems, Derek has played a pivotal role in propulsion engineering. Prior to this, they managed a team responsible for the propulsion system on the initial Crew Dragon builds and contributed to the design of key components for various spacecraft. Derek holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington and a Master's degree in Aeronautics & Astronautics Engineering from Purdue University.
