Blas Chaves-Urbano is currently a PhD student in the Computational Oncology group at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO), a position held since September 2021. Prior experience includes research student roles at CNIO, where from November 2020 to July 2021, work focused on whole genome sequencing of CDK knock-out cell lines for a master’s thesis, and at Universidad de Granada, where a bachelor's dissertation involved a replication study of a genetic variant related to keratoconus. Additionally, Blas completed a summer internship at the University of Oxford in 2019, applying CRISPR/Cas9 technology to investigate the effects of gene loss on sensitivity to PARP inhibitors. Academic qualifications include a Master of Science in Translational Medicine Research with a specialization in Oncology from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology specializing in Biomedicine from Universidad de Granada.

The Spanish National Cancer Research Centre is a public institution of excellence committed to research, diagnosis and treatment for cancer. The CNIO currently houses 22 Research Groups, organised in 7 Scientific Programmes, plus 5 Clinical Research Unit(s) that work closely with several hospitals. These scientific groups are supported by 19 Core Units that provide state-of-the-art facilities and technical expertise. The CNIO also has an Experimental Therapeutics Programme leader in academic drug discovery. El CNIO cubre todo el recorrido de la I+D+i, desde la investigación básica hasta la clínica.
