Susana Velasco Miguel

Susana Velasco Miguel is an accomplished researcher with extensive experience in cancer metabolism and DNA repair mechanisms. Currently serving as a Group Leader at the CNIO since 2004, Susana investigates the metabolic differences between tumor cells and normal cells to explore potential therapeutic targets. Previously, Susana worked as a Scientist in the Tumor Suppression group at CNIO, focusing on the anti-tumorigenic effects of Resveratrol. Susana's early career includes roles as an Instructor and Postdoctoral Fellow at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where expertise was gained in mouse mutant models and Neurofibromatosis type I. Susana's research experience is complemented by a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Bristol Myers Squibb and graduate studies at Stony Brook University, where a PhD in Physiology-Oncology was earned. Susana also holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemistry from Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

The Spanish National Cancer Research Centre is a public institution of excellence committed to research, diagnosis and treatment for cancer. The CNIO currently houses 22 Research Groups, organised in 7 Scientific Programmes, plus 5 Clinical Research Unit(s) that work closely with several hospitals. These scientific groups are supported by 19 Core Units that provide state-of-the-art facilities and technical expertise. The CNIO also has an Experimental Therapeutics Programme leader in academic drug discovery.
