Juha Savola

Vp, Clinical Development at Spark Therapeutics

Juha Savola has an extensive work experience in the field of clinical development and pharmaceuticals. Juha is currently working as the VP of Clinical Development at Spark Therapeutics, Inc. Prior to that, they held the position of Head of Clinical Development, Neuroscience and Ophthalmology at the same company. Juha also served as the Clinical Development Lead in Neurology from 2020 to 2023.

Before joining Spark Therapeutics, Inc., Juha worked at Teva Pharmaceuticals as the VP, TA Head in Neurology and Psychiatry from 2018 to 2019. Juha also held other roles such as VP, TA Head in Movement Disorders and Senior Director of Project Champion.

From 2010 to 2015, Juha worked at F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. as a Senior Leader and Project Team Leader, leading drug development in major CNS disorders. Juha also served as an International Medical Leader and Life Cycle Leader for gantenerumab, a monoclonal antibody for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

Prior to that, Juha held various positions at Santhera Pharmaceuticals, Juvantia Pharma Ltd, Drug Design and Screening at Orion Corporation, and Farmos Research, Farmos Group Ltd.

Juha started their career as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University and USCF and also worked as a Research Scientist with teaching duties in DNA level receptor cross-talk.

Juha Savola's education history includes earning a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Oulu from 1979 to 1983. Afterwards, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pharmacology from the same university between 1983 and 1986. Then, they took a Postdoc position at Stanford University from 1988 to 1989. Finally, in 1996, they became a Docent (Associate Professor) in Drug Discovery at the University of Turku.
