Pier LaFarge is the founder and CEO of Sparkfund since October 2013. Sparkfund aims to combat climate change through healthier buildings and provides a platform, SparkOS, that helps energy service brands deliver building infrastructure projects more efficiently and at a lower cost. Pier LaFarge's role includes creating value by connecting building systems to the grid, ensuring resilience, and unlocking new revenue streams.
Starting from September 2020, Pier LaFarge is also a trustee at The Nature Conservancy. Additionally, Pier LaFarge serves as an advisor on the advisory board for Noteworthy AI, starting from September 2021, supporting the CEO on strategic and financial initiatives.
Prior to these roles, Pier LaFarge worked at ICF International as a Mitigation & Sustainability Consultant in the Climate Change & Energy Division from September 2011 to October 2013. In this position, they conducted research, analyzed marginal abatement cost curves, and participated in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory systems development and pollution mitigation.
In 2010, Pier LaFarge co-founded the Race to Replace Campaign, a clean energy and young voter registration campaign. Pier worked with a team of seven full-time staff members to organize canvassing, policy initiatives, and fundraising efforts to achieve direct voter contacts and young voter engagement.
Before that, Pier LaFarge served as a Policy Fellow at 1Sky in 2009, responsible for policy analysis and research related to climate and energy issues. Pier also worked as a Research Fellow at Fundación Mazán in 2009, conducting project analysis and soil science research for the development of a regional permaculture production model and collaborating with indigenous communities to address water shortages and declining fertility. Pier LaFarge secured project development funding during their time at Fundación Mazán.
Pier LaFarge attended Heathwood Hall from 2002 to 2006. Although no degree or field of study is mentioned for this school, it can be assumed that this was their high school education. Pier LaFarge then pursued a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Environmental Policy & Economics at Middlebury College from 2006 to 2010.
