Like his colleagues at SportsEdTV, Rick has been an athlete his entire life. Growing up in Minnesota, he played both summer and winter sports, but later focused on tennis, skiing, and football. He continues to play a number of sports, and has coached youth teams and individuals for many years. Rick began his career at the law firm of Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro, where he focused on securities and venture capital transactions, then moved to Arnold & Porter, where he handled energy project financings and traditional mergers and acquisitions. From there, Rick joined Occidental Petroleum, focusing on a wide variety of domestic and international transactions, as well as supervising the company’s Foreign Corrupt Practices Act compliance and its political action committee. He returned to the investment world in 2003 when he was named General Counsel of the private equity firm Hancock Park Associates, where he supervised all legal matters, including fund creation, acquisitions and dispositions, and portfolio company-level matters. In 2011, Rick left Hancock Park and founded the private equity and venture capital firm Mesabi Capital, and in 2020 joined SportsEdTV. Rick received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama, his graduate degree from the London School of Economics, and his law degree from Georgetown University. He was a collegiate tennis player and played several professional tournaments, although his greatest tennis joy these days comes from playing with family and friends. He is thrilled to be a part of the SportsEdTV team.
