Art Teacher at Spring Lake Day Camp

Melissa DeFranco is an experienced instructor in the performing arts and physical education, currently serving as a Barre Instructor at Nirvana since January 2018. Additionally, Melissa teaches dance and acrobatics at the Gloria Frances School of Performing Arts, specializing in choreography for young children aged 2-8, while also providing movement enrichment instruction in local schools. Since June 2013, Melissa has been an Art Teacher at Spring Lake Day Camp, focusing on fine motor skills and artistic expression for children aged 2-6. Previously, from October 2002 to October 2015, Melissa was the Gym Director and Instructor at The Little Gym of Montclair, overseeing daily operations and staff training. Melissa holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Fashion Design from Syracuse University, earned from 1997 to 2001.

Spring Lake Day Camp

Spring Lake Day Camp is a top quality day camp in Northern New Jersey, with a 30 acre magnificent campus, a 40,000 square foot pool complex, a 5 acre lake, manicured sports fields and over 35 specialty areas. SLDC offers an enriching summer for our staff and campers. Everyone has the opportunity to learn new skills, build self-confidence, make "forever"​ friends and yes, have fun! Staff gain experience with leadership, communication, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills. Camp is life impacting and improves critical personal and professional skills for any career. SLDC offers administrative, nursing, counselor, lifeguard and specialty positions. Nurses (RN required) work in a team of 4 nurses and need to have experience working with children. Specialty areas include group and individual sports (ie. tennis, hockey, baseball, soccer, football, etc.), fitness, rocketry, dance, archery, arts, fiber crafts/sewing, nature, cooking, gymnastics, technology, and so much more! Applicants for specialty positions should be 18+ years of age and skilled and certified (if applicable). The adventure challenge course include 6 zip lines, climbing walls, high and low ropes courses and more. A NO COST certification course is offered at the camp in the late spring. Counselors must be at least an incoming senior in high school and 17 years old. Counselors work as a team with two other counselors and one group of children, and are responsible for the physical, emotional and social well-being of their campers each day! Aquatics applicants must be certified and16 years of age. If the applicant is NOT yet certified, an American Red Cross lifeguard certification course is offered on site in June. They not only guard our pool complex but are trained to teach campers to swim according to the American Red Cross program or work at our lake/boating area.
