Alexia-Ileana Zaromytidou

Chief Editor, Nature Cancer at Springer Nature

Alexia-Ileana Zaromytidou has an extensive work experience in the field of scientific publishing. Alexia-Ileana began their career as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center from 2007 to 2010. Alexia-Ileana then joined the Nature Publishing Group in 2010, where they held the role of Associate Editor until 2013, and then Senior Editor from 2013 to 2015. During their time at the Nature Publishing Group, they focused on cell biology, with a primary focus on cancer, cell adhesion and migration, cytoskeleton, and a secondary focus on stem cells, cell cycle, and metabolism.

In 2015, they joined the Springer Nature Group as Chief Editor of Nature Cell Biology. In this role, they developed and refined the journal's scope and strategy, oversaw all primary research, commissioned and editorial content, and hired and led the editorial team. Alexia-Ileana also oversaw the expansion of the editorial team to the US and China and implemented editorial and publishing policies. In January 2019, they transitioned to the role of Chief Editor for Nature Cancer, where they conceived and implemented the journal's vision, aims, scope, and strategy. Alexia-Ileana hired, trained, and led the editorial team and worked closely with various departments and senior executives for the journal's launch, strategic growth, and participation in special projects.

Alexia-Ileana Zaromytidou pursued their education in the field of molecular biology and biochemistry. Alexia-Ileana completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Molecular Biology from UCL between 1998 and 2001. Following that, they went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Biochemistry from the Cancer Research UK, London Research Institute, U. of London, between 2001 and 2006.
