Stephen Shafer has a diverse work experience in various roles within the maritime and economic sectors. Stephen is currently working as the Director of Strategic Planning at SSA Marine since 2022. Prior to this, they served as the Principal for Economics and Policy at the Port of San Diego from 2017 to 2022, where they led teams and implemented programs to drive economic recovery and provided analytical support. Stephen Shafer pursued their education in a progressive manner. Stephen first attended BHS from 1996 to 2000, where they did not pursue any specific degree or field of study. Subsequently, they enrolled at Georgetown University from 2000 to 2004, earning a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Foreign Service. Later, from 2006 to 2008, Stephen attended Syracuse University and completed a dual program, obtaining a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and a Master of Economics. Their focus of study during this time is not specified for the MPA degree, while the Master of Economics was pursued at the Syracuse University - Maxwell School.
