Roar Adland has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of shipping economics and research. Roar is currently the Global Head of Research at SSY, where they manage a team of analysts across shipping sectors and worldwide locations. Prior to this, they worked as a Professor of Shipping Economics at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) for a period of 11 years. Roar also had a sabbatical year at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, working as a Visiting Research Scholar on various aspects of digitalization and smart operations in shipping. In the past, Roar Adland worked at Clarksons Platou in different roles, including managing a portfolio of Forward Freight Agreements (FFA) and freight options as a Freight derivatives portfolio manager, and being responsible for the content and production of monthly drybulk market reports. Roar also worked as a Postdoc Researcher in Shipping Economics at NHH and as a Research Associate at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Roar Adland (Ph.D., FICS) obtained a Ph.D. in Shipping, Finance from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2002. Prior to that, they completed an M. Phil. in Shipping Economics from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) in 1998. Roar also holds an M.Sc. in Marine Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), which they completed in 1995. In addition to their academic qualifications, Adland obtained certification as a Chartered Shipbroker from the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers in 2021.
