Dr. Barbara Kavalier serves as President and Chief Executive Officer for St. Charles Community College (SCC), located in the greater St. Louis Region. SCC’s two campuses serve six counties in one of the fastest-growing areas in Missouri. Dr. Kavalier has held senior leadership positions at some of the most successful multi-college districts in the country, including the Dallas County Community College District, the San Diego Community College District, and the San Jose/Evergreen Community College District.
Dr. Kavalier’s passion for the mission of the comprehensive community college, coupled with an entrepreneurial spirit, has contributed to many accomplishments and innovative practices within higher education. She has a distinguished record of service with national, state, and local organizations and has been recognized as a Distinguished Graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and the first Senior Roueche Fellow. She received the St. Louis Region Most Influential Business Woman of the Year Award and was recognized by Who’s Who in Diversity and Color.
As a nationally established researcher and presenter on key issues in higher education, Dr. Kavalier has written many articles and co-authored two books. Her success as a leader has been strengthened by her experiences in the classroom. She served as an adjunct faculty member in the Graduate School of Education at San Diego State University, a Visiting Scholar at The University of Texas at Austin, and adjunct faculty with the Dallas County Community College District.
Dr. Kavalier holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from The University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Science in Business and Human Resources from Amberton University, a Bachelor of Science in English/Education from Texas Christian University, and an Associate Degree from Mountain View College.
