Joan Benson

Associate Vice President, Content & Governance at Stamats

Joan Benson has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Joan started their career in 1984 as an Arts Administrator for the Poets League of Greater Cleveland. In 1989, they worked as a Group Co-Leader for the Professional Development Program in Rhetoric at the University of Iowa. In 1992, they co-founded Benson & Hepker Design, LLC and held the position of Co-Founder until 2008. From 2008 to 2017, they worked as a Writer at J.M. Benson, where they helped organizations and individuals improve their communication through words. In 2010, they joined Stamats as a Senior Writer and Associate Vice President, Content & Governance, and later served as the Director of Content Strategy until 2018.

Joan Benson's education history includes earning a BA in Creative Writing from Oberlin College in 1983. Prior to that, they attended Interlochen Arts Academy from 1976 to 1978, studying Theatre and Creative Writing. Later, they pursued an MA in English at the University of Iowa from 1987 to 1992, with a field of study in English (ABD). Additionally, they obtained a Master of Arts (MA) in English Language and Literature/Letters from the University of Iowa in 1991.
