Luanne Smedley MHA, BSN, RN has a diverse and extensive work experience in the healthcare industry. Luanne started her career at Stanford Hospital and Clinics in 1988 as a Nursing Assistant in the summer intern program for senior nursing students. She then graduated with her BSN and became an RN in 1989. In 1991, the new Lucile Packard Children's Hospital was built. In 1996, Luanne took on her first leadership role as an Assistant Patient Care Manager and stayed in unit leadership until 2003. In 2004, Luanne went over to Information Services to help build the new EMR and stayed there (in IS and Informatics) until 2011 at which time she came back to operations as an Administrative Director for Clinical Access and Care Coordination. In this role, she had responsibility for multiple patient care support departments as well as for patient flow and progression through the hospital. In September 2019, she took on the additional role of Associate Chief Nursing Officer responsible for Care Coordination, Clinical Operations, and Technology. Luanne then served as the Associate Chief Nursing Officer & Interim Executive Director from October 2020 to October 2021, and currently holds the position of Executive Director & Associate Chief Nursing Officer. Her experience encompasses management, nursing, clinical informatics, and care coordination.
Luanne Smedley has a master's degree in healthcare administration, which she obtained from California State University - East Bay between 2011 and 2013. Prior to that, between 1984 and 1989, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the same institution. In addition to her education, Luanne Smedley obtained a certification as a Nursing Executive - Advanced from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in February 2015.
