Craig Carnaroli joined Stanford in September 2025 as Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration. His wide-ranging portfolio encompasses six distinct operational functions including: Financial Management Services; Human Resources; Improvement, Analytics and Innovation Services; Office of Research Administration; Office of the Chief Risk Officer; and University IT.
Prior to joining Stanford, Craig served as Senior Executive Vice President (SEVP) at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn), helping to shape Penn's physical campus, financial strength and operational efficiency. Reporting directly to the University President, Craig was Penn's chief financial and administrative officer.
During his tenure at Penn, Craig led a variety of initiatives to support Penn's myriad of operations, including: enhancing the University’s long-term credit ratings; increasing student financial aid; implementing a long-range plan to reduce Penn's carbon footprint; developing new housing and dining amenities; planning Penn's campus with a 30-year horizon by adding over one million square-feet of new facilities; and overseeing neighborhood initiatives in support of community and economic development.
During his time at Penn and Philadelphia, Craig contributed to the city and region as a volunteer member of local boards, including: The Connelly Foundation (community Trustee); The University City District (Chair); the University City Science Center (Vice Chair); Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (Executive Committee); and The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce (CEO Council for Growth).
Prior to his appointment as Penn’s SEVP in June 2021, Craig served as Penn’s Executive Vice President from 2004 to 2021 and as Vice President of Finance and Treasurer, from 2000-2004, after serving as Director, Municipal Securities Division, for Merrill Lynch.
Craig is a 1985 graduate of Penn’s Wharton School of Business with a Bachelor of Science in Economics (cum laude), and a 1990 graduate of Stanford University's Graduate School of Business, with a Master's in Business Administration.
