David Hall is a member of the technical staff at Open Athena, currently leading Marin, an open lab for foundation model research. Previously, David co-founded Semantic Machines, a conversational AI startup acquired by Microsoft, where they contributed to integrating technology into Outlook and developed innovative models for improving interaction experiences. At Stanford’s CRFM, David co-created Marin and Levanter, a high-performance framework for large-scale model training. Additionally, David holds a PhD in Computer Science from UC Berkeley, where they received recognition as a Google PhD Fellow and won a Best Paper award at EMNLP.
