Justin K. Chen

Advisor Head of Engineering at Stashrun

Justin K. Chen has a diverse range of work experience in the field of software engineering. Justin has most recently been working as a Staff Software Engineer at HEIR since May 2023, where they are responsible for building athlete-first communities, working on Node APIs, and leading the development of a Solidity-based NFT membership experience.

Prior to this, Justin was a Founding Software Engineer at Set starting in February 2018. In this role, they played a key role in designing and implementing private and public APIs, building infrastructure and integrations for services on Rails/Node/Heroku, and developing features for TokenSets using React/Redux.

From February 2021, Justin also served as the Advisor Head of Engineering at Stashrun, where they guided the startup as a full-stack architect and provided leadership in recruiting the engineering team. Justin worked with React Native (Android/iOS), Ruby on Rails, and GraphQL.

Before that, Justin was the Chief Technical Advisor at Halo since March 2019 and the Founder of The Riot Record, a platform for showcasing Carolina Panthers pride, starting in April 2019.

Justin also gained valuable experience at Airbnb as a Senior Software Engineer from June 2013 to May 2023. In this role, they worked on the Payments Investigative Tooling team and served as a Tech Lead for a cross-organizational project, focusing on compliance and fraud use cases. Justin previously held the position of Trust and Safety engineering tech lead, where they dealt with fraud detection and prevention.

In addition to their professional roles, Justin has worked as a Course Assistant at Stanford University, supporting various courses from September 2012 to June 2013. Justin also had an internship as a Mobile Software Engineer at Zynga from June 2012 to September 2012.

Justin K. Chen has a diverse education history that spans both the United States and China. Justin began their education at the Shanghai American School, where they completed their high school education from 2002 to 2006. Following this, they pursued a Dual B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, where they studied from 2007 to 2011.

Justin then continued their academic journey in the field of computer science at Stanford University, where they obtained their M.S. degree from 2011 to 2013. In order to enhance their expertise in machine learning, they later pursued a Nanodegree in the same subject at Udacity, completing it in 2019.

Additionally, Justin has obtained several certifications to further expand their knowledge and skills. Justin obtained a certification in Software Architecture Foundations from LinkedIn in August 2020, as well as a certification in The Six Morning Habits of High Performers, also from LinkedIn, in the same month and year. Justin's educational background demonstrates their commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
