Stephen Hunckler

Chief Claims Operations Officer at State Compensation Insurance Fund

Stephen (Steve) Hunckler has a long and diverse work experience in the insurance industry. Stephen (Steve) started their career at Zurich North America in 1985, where they served as an Assistant Vice President in the Environmental Claims department. During their time there, they led the Toxic Tort group and actively participated in claim department process redesign and system implementation.

In 1992, Hunckler joined AIG as a Regional Vice President and stayed with the company until 1997. Stephen (Steve) then moved to Travelers Insurance, where they served as a Regional Vice President until 2003.

Hunckler then joined CNA Insurance in 2003 as the Senior VP of Standard Lines Claims until 2006. Following that, they assumed the role of Executive Vice President and Chief Claims Officer for Balboa Insurance Group at Countrywide Insurance Group / Balboa Insurance Group / Bank of America. Stephen (Steve) played a crucial role in leading the transition and assimilation of General Fidelity Insurance Co. to Balboa after its sale to Bank of America.

In 2009, Hunckler joined State Auto Insurance as the Senior Vice President, first serving as the Chief Claims Officer and Chief Risk Control Services Officer until 2015. From 2015 onwards, they assumed the role of Chief Claims Operations Officer at the State Compensation Insurance Fund.

Stephen Hunckler obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Organizational Leadership from Colorado State University Global. Stephen (Steve) also holds additional certifications as a Leadership Fellow and Governance Fellow from the National Association of Corporate Directors, which they obtained in 2017 and 2012 respectively.
