Abby J. Stivers

Abby J. Stivers, PhD, currently serves as the Director of Government Relations and Director of Workforce Initiatives at the State of Maine since January 2022. In August 2024, Stivers commenced a role as a Lecturer at the University of Southern Maine, teaching SOC 210 Critical Social Thought, a course focused on the sociology of debt and moral obligations in contemporary society. Previously, Stivers worked as a Project Manager at Accenture from December 2019 to January 2022, and served as an adjunct professor of Sociology at the University at Albany from June 2011 to May 2020 after earning a PhD in Sociology from the institution. Additional academic experience includes a position as a Sociology Instructor at Connecticut College in 2019, along with earlier work as a Paralegal at Mintz Levin from 2008 to 2009. Stivers holds a BA degree in International Relations from Mount Holyoke College, earned in 2008.
