Sean P. O'Malley

Sean is the General Counsel in the SSGA Legal Department. He is responsible for heading the legal team that supports SSGA's Global Funds and Products business unit, including the registered funds, ETFs, bank collective trust funds and unregistered investment funds. His areas of expertise are Asset Management, Exchange-Traded-Funds, Mutual Funds, Investment Management, Private Funds, Alternative Investments, Mutual Funds, Broker-Dealer Regulatory and Compliance, Private Equity, Financial Services Industry Mergers & Acquisitions, Financial Services Marketing and Advertising, and Intellectual Property.

From 1999-2005, Sean was with the U.S Securities Exchange (OCIE, Office of General Counsel and Division of Trading and Markets); he then moved on to become an Associate at Schulte Roth & Zabel (hedge funds, investment advisers) from 2005-2007; Partner at Goodwin Procter (Investment Management Group) 2007-2010; and finally a Partner at White & Case (Capital Markets & Private Funds practice groups) before joining the State Street Global Advisors.

Sean studied and received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina, attended the J.D. Pepperdine University School of Law and the LLM. Georgetown University Law Center (Securities and Financial Institutions). He is a member of the New York State Bar and Virginia State Bar.
