Kamalesh Mandal

Kamalesh Mandal, PhD, is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in the steel industry, currently serving as Manager of Raw Materials Optimization at Steel Dynamics, Inc. since September 2014. Previously, Kamalesh held roles such as Plant Metallurgist and Senior Metallurgist at Severstal Columbus, focusing on modeling and optimization techniques for production efficiency. Kamalesh also contributed to the ArcelorMittal Global Research and Development Center as a Research Engineer, developing advisory systems for secondary steelmaking. Early career experience includes work as a Scientist at Tata Research Development and Design Center, where process modeling and improvements were key responsibilities. Educational qualifications include an MBA from the University of Michigan, a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from McMaster University, and advanced degrees in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and Jadavpur University.
