Sarah Zhang

Research Engineer at STELCO

Sarah Zhang has a diverse work experience in the field of materials science and engineering. Sarah started their career as a Materials Chemist and Group Leader at the Central Iron and Steel Research Institute, where they managed the operations of an industrial materials testing laboratory and led a team to develop and validate analytical methods. Sarah achieved efficient and high-quality laboratory processes, provided standard sample tests for national and international companies, and developed various R&D projects sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology China. Sarah then worked as a PhD Researcher at the Department of Chemistry, Western University, where they evaluated the corrosion performance of alloys for nuclear waste management and conducted extensive research on the mechanisms of corrosion and surface thin film properties. Sarah also published numerous papers and presentations. Following their PhD, they worked as a Post-doctoral Researcher in Materials Science and Engineering at McMaster University, where they continued their research in materials science. Currently, they hold the position of Research Engineer at STELCO - The Steel Company of Canada, conducting research projects related to coatings and surface processes for sheet steel products, as well as establishing process conditions and supporting the commercialization of new products.

Sarah Zhang completed their education between 2006 and 2012 at Western University, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemistry.
