Lenine Liebenberg

Lenine Liebenberg is a prominent researcher in mucosal immunology, currently serving as Chief Researcher at both CERI - Centre for Epidemic Response and Innovation and Stellenbosch University since September 2023. Additionally, Liebenberg holds the position of Honorary Associate Professor and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal from January 2013, where responsibilities include delivering lectures and supervising postgraduate students. Previous roles include Senior Scientist at CAPRISA from 2014 to September 2023, focusing on female genital tract immunity and the prevention of sexually transmitted infections. Liebenberg’s research contributions include supervising student degrees, securing research funding, and publishing numerous articles, with a PhD in Medical Virology obtained from the University of Cape Town.
