Mark Moynihan has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries. Mark started their career in 1980 as a Machinery Technician (3rd Class) in the U.S. Coast Guard, where they were responsible for the operation and maintenance of various machinery. Mark worked in this role until 1987. In 1988, they joined D&R Products, Inc. as a CNC Machinist, Programmer, and Engineer, a position they held until 2007. After that, they worked at New Com Metals from 2009 to 2016, where they served as a CNC Machinist, Programmer, and also handled product design and engineering. In 2014, they joined Smith Maritime Ocean Towing & Salvage Services as a QMED Oiler-Maritime Engineer until 2016. Currently, they are working at Stevens Towing Company as a Chief Engineer and DDE 4000 Maritime Engineer since 2016.

Mark Moynihan began their education by attending Bristol Community College from 2002 to 2006, where they obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to that, in 1981, they completed a Machinery Tech. Certificate in Industrial Mechanics and Maintenance Technology from the U.S. Coast Guard Machinery Technician School. In 1998, they enrolled at New England Institute of Technology for engineering studies, which remained unfinished. Mark also pursued Mechanical Engineering at Roger Williams University from 1997 to 1998, but did not complete the degree.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Mark Moynihan has various certifications. Mark obtained the Merchant Mariner Licensed Engineer- DDE 4000 certification from the U.S. Coast Guard in December 2016. Mark also holds a Merchant Mariner- QMED Oiler certification obtained in February 2014 from the U.S. Coast Guard and National Maritime Center. Mark has multiple certifications related to different aspects of maritime and oil rig operations, firefighting, first aid and CPR, driver certification from the Department of Transportation, and an MMC (OS) Qualifications certification from the U.S. Coast Guard and National Maritime Center. Moreover, they have obtained various other certifications including the TWIC Card, U.S. Passport, and qualifications such as RFPNW, RFPEW, and VPDSD from the U.S. Coast Guard and National Maritime Center. Mark holds a Drilling/Workover with Stack Qualification (Surface/Subsea) from the IADC ProgramWC519 and a PEC (BST) certification from PEC. Furthermore, they have received training in HUET with METS Training from Survival Systems USA and STCW-95 certification from the U.S. Coast Guard.
