Ruth Bamford is a Plasma Physicist and the Principal Scientist of the Mini-magnetospheres project aimed at spacecraft protection. They founded the project to explore the use of an artificial plasma barrier as a shield for spacecraft. With a PhD in Physics from the University of Essex, Ruth's research includes a focus on the radial electric field at the edges of tokamak plasmas and connections between lab and space plasma environments. Ruth has worked as a Senior Researcher at STFC since 1996 and is currently a Visiting Research Scientist at the University of Oxford, bringing together diverse fields in physics through innovative research and communication.
