Kumara Kahatapitiya

Kumara Kahatapitiya is currently a Research Scientist Intern at Meta, beginning in June 2024. Kahatapitiya has been a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant at Stony Brook University since August 2019. Previous experience includes roles as a Research Intern at Qualcomm (July 2023 - November 2023), a Student Researcher at Google DeepMind (February 2022 - January 2023), and a Research Intern at Wormpex AI Research (May 2021 - August 2021). Kahatapitiya also served as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Moratuwa (February 2018 - May 2020) and as an Associate Research Engineer at Zone24x7 (February 2018 - July 2019). Early career experience includes a Research Intern position at CSIRO (August 2016 - January 2017). Kumara Kahatapitiya is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science at Stony Brook University, expected to complete in December 2025, following a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Hons) in Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Moratuwa (January 2014 - January 2018). Educational background includes attendance at Nalanda College Colombo from 1999 to 2012.
