Dennis Szurkus Jr.

Dennis Szurkus Jr., MD, MBA, FACOG, CPE, currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer for the Central Iowa Market at MercyOne since June 2024 and concurrently as Chief Medical Officer at Stratosphere Management, providing medical affairs consulting to hospital systems nationwide. Previously, Szurkus held the Chief Medical Officer position at Hospital Sisters Health System from January 2023 to June 2024 and at HCA Healthcare from January 2020 to May 2022, where notable achievements included enhancing mortality rates and leading significant clinical partnerships. Earlier roles included leadership positions at Sentara Healthcare and Orlando Health, as well as serving as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist with the US Navy. Szurkus holds a Doctor of Medicine from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, an Executive MBA from the University of Miami, and a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from Vanderbilt University.
