Per Gustavsson, PhD

Per Gustavsson, PhD, has a diverse work experience in various roles related to information security, cyber security, and research. Per is currently serving as the Chief Information Security Officer at Stratsys since August 2021. Prior to this, they worked as an Affiliate Research Faculty at George Mason University in the Center of Excellence in C4I and Cyber, where they focused on research related to command and control systems, intent modeling, and cyber security. Per also served as the Head of Research and Development Committee at ISACA Sweden Chapter, where they established connections with academic institutions and promoted IT governance and COBIT.

Per has been actively involved in EU-funded projects and served as a Board Member for the SURPRISE project, which aimed to provide practical security and privacy solutions for smart environments. Per also worked as an Independent Expert for the European Commission, specializing in AI, IoT, cyber security, interoperability, and big data.

In addition to their academic and research work, Per has held positions in the industry, including Chief Information Security Officer at Göteborgs Stad and Senior Advisor Cyber Security at Atea Sverige. Per has also worked as a Senior Technology Advisor and Senior Advisor Cyber Security at Combitech Sverige, where they assisted various organizations in the domains of cyber security, intelligence, and analytics.

Per has a strong educational background with a PhD and has contributed to the field through their research, publications, and involvement in conferences and forums.

Per Gustavsson, PhD has an extensive education history in various fields of study. Per began their educational journey in 1979 at Helenaskolan where they completed the upper level lower secondary school. Per then pursued their interest in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Västerhöjd gymnasiet, where they obtained their High School degree in 1986.

Moving forward, Per attended the Air Defence Officer College and Technical School (LvOHS) from 1987 to 1989, focusing on Basic Officer Training. Per then shifted their focus to Computer Science and studied at the University of Skövde, earning a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree with a specialization in Systems Programming in 1994. Continuing their education at the same university, they pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Computer Science - New Generations Representations, completing it in 1995.

Per's educational journey took another turn in 2003 when they enrolled at De Montfort University. Over a period of eight years, from 2003 to 2011, they engaged in rigorous research and academic work, ultimately obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Engineering Simulation.

In 2014, Per attended the Swedish Defence University (Försvarshögskolan), where they completed the Chief Information Assurance Officer (CIAO) program, deepening their knowledge in the field of Cybersecurity. Per further expanded their expertise in Strategy and Innovation by attending MIT Sloan School of Management for an Executive Certificate in Strategy and Innovation in 2016.

Beyond their formal education, Per Gustavsson has also acquired an array of professional certifications. In 2006, they became a Certified Modeling and Simulation Professional (CMSP) through Mspcc. Per has also earned numerous certifications in the field of Information Security, including certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) issued by (ISC)² in 2016, Certified Information Security Manager® (CISM) from ISACA in 2021, and various other certifications in ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27701 implementation and governance from PECB.

Additionally, they obtained their ITIL® Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management through AXELOS Global Best Practice in 2018, and became a Project Management Professional (PMP)® through the Project Management Institute in 2019.
