Kate Hagner has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Kate started their career as an intern at the Poetry Center at Smith College in 2001. From there, they served as an AmeriCorps Member at City Year New Hampshire in 2002. Kate then worked as a Capital City Education Initiative Volunteer Coordinator at the City of Saint Paul in 2003. In 2004, they became a Library Associate at the St. Paul Public Library.
In 2005, Kate Hagner took on the role of Teaching Assistant at the University of Texas at Austin. The following year, they worked as an Advanced Studies Program Intern at St. Paul's School. In 2006, they became an Instructor at Badgerdog, Inc.
In 2008, Kate Hagner joined the Student Conservation Association (SCA) as the Manager of the AmeriCorps Program. During their tenure there, they tripled the amount of grant funds received annually and implemented a cloud-based system for tracking program data, resulting in a 500% increase in efficiency.
In 2011, they were promoted to Manager of Program Quality at SCA, where they designed and implemented the organization's first evaluation and performance measurement systems. Kate also managed a 3-year mixed methods study conducted by an external evaluator and conducted training sessions for students, staff, executive leadership, and the Board of Directors.
In 2015, Kate Hagner became the Director of Evaluation and Strategic Initiatives at SCA, where they leveraged program evaluation results to secure multiple multi-year foundation grants. Kate also led the organization-wide strategic visioning process and presented results at conferences.
In 2020, they were promoted to the Senior Director of Operations, Program at SCA. In this role, they oversaw operations within the Programs Division, developed and implemented the strategic plan, and co-led the organization's Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group.

Kate Hagner attended Smith College from 1998 to 2002, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in English Language and Literature. Following this, they pursued further education at The University of Texas at Austin from 2005 to 2007, earning a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Creative Writing - Fiction.
