Dom Smithies

Dom Smithies is the Head of Influencing & Communications at Student Minds, where responsibilities include strategic oversight of influencing, policy, insights, communication, and student engagement efforts. Promoted to a senior leadership role in 2021, Dom has extensive experience in advocating for health inequalities and student welfare. Previous roles at Student Minds include Student Voice and Equality Lead and Project Manager focusing on a Men’s Mental Health initiative. Prior to this, Dom served as Community & Well-being Sabbatical Officer at the University of York Students' Union, advocating for welfare provision and working with local council networks. Dom began a career in customer service as a Retail Assistant at Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate and gained early experience as a Classroom Assistant at Colfe's School. Dom holds a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy from the University of York and A’Levels in Philosophy, Politics, and English Literature from Colfe's School.
