Helen Organ

Company Secretary & General Counsel at Sue Ryder

Helen joined Sue Ryder in October 2006, initially as Head of Legal.

In 2007, she became a member of the executive team, taking on the role of Company Secretary and General Counsel. In this role, Helen also oversees information governance, risk management, as well as ensuring that the charity is compliant with all regulatory requirements. She heads up the Legal Department, which includes Internal Audit, Legacies, Insurance, Company Cars, Archiving and Property Administration. Helen believes that the role of the legal department is to find a way to make things happen, rather than find obstacles, and under her leadership this is what the legal department does.

Prior to working at Sue Ryder, Helen has worked as a solicitor/company secretary in various commercial sectors and had also worked in private practice in New Zealand. She has a BA (Hons) in Philosophy and was admitted as a solicitor in January 1990.

Helen was for two years a trustee of Firstsite, an art gallery in Colchester, and a trustee of Ipswich Housing Action Group (IHAG), a charity for single homeless people, for five years.

Helen’s key ambition for Sue Ryder is that it should become a household name, which should then enable it to increase its supporter base and provide more services to more people.
