Brian Macdonald

Brian Macdonald is the current Director at Suncor Energy. Prior to this, they served as the Chief Executive Officer at Herc Rentals from June 2014 to June 2015. Brian was also Interim CEO of Hertz during this time.

Macdonald led both companies with clear communication and focused goals. Under their leadership, organizational buy-in increased and stability was created during a time of great uncertainty for employees. Additionally, they were able to grow total revenue from new customers by 100% in eight months and reduce Fleet Unavailable for Rent (FUR) to historically low levels.

Macdonald also launched a strategic review of international operations that ultimately led to the sale of France and Spain business units, improving returns and growth rate of overall business. Brian quickly shifted culture to be more customer- and field-centric and less HQ-centric. Lastly, they launched and financed the largest fleet refresh (350K autos/$7+ billion) in Hertz’s history and a $150 million cost reduction program for Hertz rental car operation.

Brian Macdonald has an MBA in Finance from McGill University and a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Mount Allison University.
