Alex El Helou

Alex El Helou has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. From 2017 to present, they have worked at SUNY Maritime College, starting as an Admissions Counselor/Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Coordinator and progressing to Associate Director of Admissions. Their responsibilities included counseling and recruiting students, reviewing applications, and conducting interviews for enrollment. Alex also served as an Adjunct Professor teaching a first-year seminar on leadership.

Prior to their work at SUNY Maritime College, Alex gained experience in education and counseling roles. Alex worked as a Counselor and College Advisor at College Confident, providing college counseling to high school students. At Kids in the Game, they served as an Assistant Director and Field Trip Supervisor, ensuring the smooth operation of the summer camp and leading field trip activities.

Alex also has experience in supervisory and coaching positions. Alex worked as a Unit Supervisor and Director of Health at 92nd Street Y, overseeing counselors and addressing parent concerns. Alex also worked as a Coach at Super Soccer Stars, teaching soccer skills to children.

Additionally, Alex volunteered at Northampton Veteran Medical Center, assisting in the rehabilitation of veterans with severe mental illnesses, and at Hampshire County Jail and House of Correction, counseling inmates and teaching decision-making skills. Alex El Helou earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2014. In 2018, they obtained a Certificate of Graduate Study in International Education Management from the University at Albany, SUNY. Alex furthered their education by completing a Master of Arts degree in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration from Stony Brook University in 2020. Alex also obtained a certification in Higher Ed Management & Operations from Stony Brook University School of Professional Development. In 2013, they briefly studied at Anglo-American University in Prague, but did not earn a degree.
