Rose Barbuto is the Chief Executive Officer of Crystal Strategies, a consulting firm in Washington, DC. She most recently served as the Farm Journal Foundation’s Executive Director of External Relations, leading advocacy efforts with U.S. farmers, producers and next generation populations to advance global food security and foster economic development through agriculture.
Rose joined the Farm Journal Foundation after serving as the Country Coordinator for the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Sierra Leone and Liberia where she managed Ebola response and recovery projects in both countries. Previously, Rose served as a Director of the United Nations Mission for Ebola Emergency Response in Liberia, leading a team which helped end the Ebola outbreak.
From 2010 to 2014, Rose served on the Agriculture and U.S. Government Relations teams at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation where she helped coordinate the foundation’s advocacy and policy strategies on agricultural development, research, and trade, while expanding partnerships with the U.S. Government. Rose began her development career with the United Nations World Food Program in Rome, holding positions in the Executive Office and the US Government Relations Team. Rose also held several senior international field positions in Zambia, Somalia and South Sudan where she worked on complex humanitarian emergencies and managed a refugee food aid program. She gained legislative experience working for a Member of the House of Representatives from New York. Rose holds degrees from the University of Buffalo and was a Ph.D. candidate at Columbia University.
