Gonzalo Alberto Pérez Rojas

President at Grupo SURA

He was born in Bogotá in 1958. He is a Lawyer from the University of Medellín with a Specialization in Insurance from Swiss Re, in Zurich, and completed a CEO's Management Program at the Kellogg School of Management in Chicago (United States).

Since April 1, 2020, he has held the position of President of Grupo SURA, a holding company that consolidates one of the most important financial services operations in Latin America: leader in pensions by managed assets (with its subsidiary SURA Asset Management), fourth largest insurer of Latin American origin by volume of premiums (with its subsidiary Suramericana), a leading bank in Colombia and one of the main financial entities in Central America (as the main shareholder of Bancolombia).

His entire professional career has been linked to Suramericana, which he joined in the early 1980s. He served from 2003 to March 2020 as President of Suramericana, a subsidiary of Grupo SURA specialized in the insurance industry and Trend and Risk Management, with a presence in nine countries in the region.

Previously, he held various positions at Suramericana de Seguros (today Seguros SURA Colombia). He was a Lawyer for the Legal Department, Human Management Manager, Manager of the Medellín Brokerage Branch, Business Business Manager, Vice President of Corporate Business and Vice President of Insurance and Capitalization.

He is currently a member of the Boards of Directors of SURA Asset Management, Suramericana, Bancolombia, Grupo Nutresa and Grupo Argos, all companies in the investment portfolio of Grupo SURA.

He also participates in the Board of Directors, in Colombia, of the SURA Foundation, Nutresa Foundation, Proantioquia, the Private Competitiveness Council, the Entrepreneurs for Education Foundation, the Ideas for Peace Foundation and the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra.
