Matthew Penaroza

Matthew Penaroza is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in engineering and customer solutions. Currently serving as the Head of Customer Engineering at SurrealDB since October 2025, Matthew previously held the position of Principal Solutions Engineer at TiDB, powered by PingCAP, where responsibilities included being the technical owner for large enterprise customers in North America. Matthew also served as a Senior Solutions Engineer at PingCAP and has a strong background in software engineering, with roles at Keala Capital focused on developing web3 financial systems and at Dynamic Balance, where a physiotherapy recommendation engine was engineered. Additionally, Matthew founded Quash TV, a scalable video streaming platform, and worked as a consultant at Penaroza Consulting, where software solutions for SMB clients were designed and developed. Matthew’s early career included a notable tenure as a professional player and streamer in competitive gaming, particularly in DotA 2 and Heroes of Newerth.
