Mariah Dear

Mariah Dear is an experienced educator currently serving as a Teacher at Surrey Schools (School District #36 Surrey) since June 2019. In this role, Mariah effectively teaches material aligned with prescribed learning outcomes, plans lessons and assessments in accordance with the BC Teaching Curriculum, and emphasizes building a positive classroom community and strong student relationships. Additionally, Mariah works as a Creative Writing Workshop Facilitator for WordPlay by Vancouver Poetry House and as a self-employed facilitator since March 2015, leading poetry exercises for youth and fostering constructive feedback among participants. Prior experience includes serving as an In Home Childcare/Nanny from September 2016 to August 2019, where Mariah acted as a primary caregiver and role model for children aged 2-12. Mariah holds a Bachelor of Arts in Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice with a Minor in English Literature, a Bachelor of Education, and a Diploma of Education in Counselor Education/School Counseling and Guidance Services, all obtained from The University of British Columbia.
