Michael Hellessey

Michael Hellessey is an accomplished engineering professional with extensive experience in mechanical design and systems engineering. Currently serving as Engineering Manager and Engineering Lead at the Aerostructures Innovation Research (AIR) Hub at Swinburne University of Technology since May 2023, Michael previously held the position of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Goterra, where responsibilities included leading projects and improving engineering systems focused on food waste solutions. Prior roles include Systems / Mechanical Engineer at XTEK Limited, where contributions involved project management and establishing engineering processes, and Systems Engineer at Defence Australia, focusing on tactical communications. Michael’s career began at ECLIPS Engineering, producing designs and overseeing manufacturing processes. Michael holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from The Australian National University.
