Matt Coppen

Matt Coppen is a seasoned professional in underwriting with extensive experience spanning several key positions in the insurance industry. Currently serving as the Director of Underwriting at Symetra since November 2023, Matt previously held the same title at The Hartford from June 2011 to November 2023, where contributions focused on process improvement and change management. Prior to that, Matt was the Director of Underwriting at Humana, leading the Group Life and Disability Underwriting teams. Additionally, Matt's career at The Hartford began in 1994, progressing through roles such as Assistant Director of Group Underwriting and Managing Chief Underwriter, where responsibilities included profit and loss accountability and consultative underwriting support for National Accounts. Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Technical Writing from Keene State College, earned from 1990 to 1994.
