Michael Reid has a diverse work experience in the field of architecture and planning. Michael is currently working as a Senior Architectural Designer - Education at SMMA, where they are involved in visioning, planning, and designing K-12 and higher educational projects. Prior to this, they had their own architectural consulting firm, Michael Reid Architect, specializing in architecture and planning for colleges, universities, and schools in North America and East Africa.

From 2011 to 2021, Michael worked at Uganda Christian University as a Senior Lecturer / Campus Architect. In this role, they were responsible for the master planning and design of buildings and infrastructure across all 6 UCU campuses, catering to a student population of 14,000. Michael also held a dual appointment as a senior lecturer in the college of science and technology, specifically teaching in the civil engineering department.

Before joining UCU, Michael was an Associate Principal - Higher Education Leader at Perkins+Will's Atlanta office from 2007 to 2011. Michael played a crucial role in business development and design leadership for the Higher Education Studio.

Prior to Perkins+Will, Michael worked as a Senior Associate at BAR Architects from 2001 to 2007. Michael also previously worked at Perkins+Will as an Associate from 1996 to 2001.

Throughout their career, Michael Reid has demonstrated their expertise in architecture and planning for educational institutions, both in the United States and internationally.

Michael Reid's education history begins in 1986 when they attended Gordon College. Michael majored in Philosophy but it is unclear if they obtained a degree from this institution. Michael then transferred to the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1989, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy. Michael completed their studies at UMass Amherst in 1991. Following this, Michael attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1992 to 1996, where they earned a Master of Architecture degree with a specialization in Architecture.
