Anna Callan

Anna Callan has a diverse work experience in the field of data science and research. Anna is currently working at Synergy as the Lead Data Scientist since November 2023. Prior to this role, Anna worked as the Forecasting Solutions Lead at Synergy from June 2022 to December 2023, and as an Associate Data Scientist from April 2021 to June 2022.

Before joining Synergy, Anna worked at Starling Energy Group as a Frontend Developer from August 2020 to November 2020.

From February 2017 to August 2020, Anna took a career break to care for their young child but continued to work on their research projects, analyzing data, and supporting and mentoring postgraduate students. During this time, they focused on increasing their skills in tech, analytics, and data science.

Prior to their career break, Anna worked at Edith Cowan University in various roles. Anna served as a Senior Lecturer and Course Coordinator for the Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Science) degree program from December 2013 to February 2017. Anna was also a Lecturer and Research Scientist from June 2012 to December 2013, and a Research Fellow from June 2009 to May 2012. Anna'sresearch activities involved designing studies, collecting, managing, and analyzing data, as well as communicating findings to stakeholders.

Earlier in their career, Anna worked at Telethon Kids Institute as a Research Officer and Project Coordinator from January 2008 to May 2009. Anna'sresponsibilities included coordinating a national research study and handling data collection and analysis.

Anna started their career as a Postdoctoral Researcher at The University of Manchester, where they focused on protein translocation and quality control at the Endoplasmic Reticulum using biochemical methods. Anna held this position from March 2006 to April 2007.

Anna Callan has a diverse education history. In 1993 to 1996, they attended UWC South East Asia. Later, from 1998 to 2001, they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry at The University of Manchester. Anna continued their studies at the same university and obtained a Master of Research (MRes) degree in Biological and Biomedical Sciences in 2002. Anna then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Biochemistry from 2002 to 2006, also at The University of Manchester.

In recent years, Anna focused on expanding their knowledge in the field of Data Science. Anna completed a Professional Certificate in Data Science from IBM in 2018 to 2019. In 2019, they participated in a six-month training program at Anna Codes Australia, specializing in Computer Science. Anna's commitment to developing their skills also includes completing various online certifications from Coursera, such as "Data Science Methodology," "Databases and SQL for Data Science," and "Open Source tools for Data Science" in 2018. Anna further obtained certification in "Machine Learning with Python," "Data Visualization with Python," "Data Analysis with Python," and "Python for Data Science" in 2019.

Anna's most recent educational achievement was earning a Professional Certificate in "Excel to MySQL: Analytic Techniques for Business" from Duke University, delivered via Coursera, from 2020 to 2021.
