Mahalakshmi Ramadass has a diverse work experience in the field of scientific research. Mahalakshmi is currently working at Synthekine as a Principal Scientist since January 2023. Prior to this role, they were a Senior Scientist at the same company from January 2022 to December 2022. Mahalakshmi also worked as a Scientist II at Synthekine from February 2020 to December 2021.

Before joining Synthekine, Mahalakshmi worked at The Scripps Research Institute as a Cystinosis Research Fellow from June 2017 to June 2018. Mahalakshmi also served as an American Heart Association Fellow at the same institute from January 2014 to June 2017. During their fellowship, they made significant contributions to the field, including the discovery of trafficking mechanisms involved in the regulation of neutrophil functions and successful testing of small molecule inhibitors in mouse models of inflammation and a rare lysosomal storage disorder called cystinosis.

Their earlier work experience includes being a Graduate Student at Stony Brook University from September 2008 to August 2013. Their research focused on complement activation and glomerulopathies, where they discovered high-impact findings and identified disease aggravating by-products of complement activation.

Mahalakshmi has also gained research experience in India, where they worked as a Research Intern at Sankara Nethralaya (Vision Research Foundation) in 2008. Prior to that, they served as a Summer Intern at the same institute in 2006.

Mahalakshmi Ramadass pursued their education in the field of Immunology, completing a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree at Stony Brook University from 2008 to 2013. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, specifically a Master of Science (MSc) (Hons.), from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, during the period of 2004 to 2008. Additionally, they have obtained a certification in Data Science from the Caltech Data Science Bootcamp offered by Simplilearn in 2023.
