Margaret Dunbar

Vice President, Intellectual Property at Synthetic Genomics

Margaret Dunbar brings more than 20 years of leadership in intellectual property for life and health science enterprises. A registered patent attorney with broad expertise in all business and legal aspects covering IP matters, Ms. Dunbar has experience with regulatory issues, transactional commercial deals and negotiations. Her experience spans complex license and collaboration matters, M&As and high-volume portfolios.

Before she joined Synthetic Genomics, Ms. Dunbar was general counsel and senior director of business affairs for Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute. She also previously served as senior director of intellectual property and legal affairs for Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute. She also has done long-term consulting for global agroscience and pharmaceutical companies, was in private practice as IP counsel at the Sonnenschein law firm and worked for several non-profits supporting their innovation programs and spin-outs. Ms. Dunbar holds a B.S. in Animal Science from the University of California, Davis and a M.S. in Animal Science and J.D. from the University of Idaho.
