Principal Engineer at System Initiative

Fletcher Nichol has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and industries. Fletcher is currently working as a Principal Engineer at System Initiative since January 2020. Prior to this, they served as the Chief Executive Officer at Unicorn Tears Software Corporation from August 2012 to January 2020.

Fletcher also worked at various software companies, including Chef Software as a Principal Software Engineer from December 2014 to March 2019. Here, they focused on the Test Kitchen project and co-authored the Habitat project. Fletcher also worked as a Software Engineer at Heavy Water Operations from October 2013 to November 2014, delivering cloud and infrastructure automation solutions.

In addition, Fletcher worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Blue Box Group from September 2012 to September 2013, where they contributed to an open-source project and developed a bare metal provisioning service. Prior to this, they were a Web Developer at Alberta Motor Association from October 2011 to August 2012, where they deployed a cloud-based infrastructure.

Fletcher began their career as a Java Developer at MacEwan University from August 2009 to October 2011, building integration services and implementing a student application interface. Fletcher also worked as a Programmer Analyst at The Alberta Library from January 2007 to July 2009, building a digital object repository discovery portal.

Furthermore, Fletcher has a history with the University of Alberta, where they worked in various roles. Fletcher served as an E-Learning Systems Administrator from October 2004 to January 2007. Prior to this, they were a Senior Help Desk Analyst/Developer from May 2003 to October 2004, a Help Desk Analyst from December 1999 to May 2003, and an Introductory Java Lab Instructor from January 2000 to December 2000.

Throughout their career, Fletcher has developed a wide range of technical skills, including programming languages such as Ruby, Java, and HTML, as well as various tools and technologies such as Chef, Puppet, Docker, and AWS.

Fletcher Nichol completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Computing Science with a specialization from the University of Alberta. They also pursued a minor in Business, graduating from the program in 2003.
