John Saw, Ph.D., is the Executive Vice President of Advanced and Emerging Technologies at T-Mobile, responsible for the company’s future technology product and services roadmap. His brilliant team of technologists set the Uncarrier strategy for new products that improve customers’ lives and help Team Magenta compete and disrupt in new ways.

Prior to joining T-Mobile, John was the Chief Technology Officer at Sprint, where he transformed Sprint’s network performance and drove the 5G ecosystem for the company’s critical mid-band 2.5 GHz spectrum. Before Sprint’s acquisition of Clearwire, he was Chief Technology Officer of Clearwire, joining the company as its second employee in 2003. Long recognized as a pioneer in the 2.5 GHz band, he has led the development of the 2.5 GHz band into one of the most valuable mid band spectrum in the USA and one of the largest ecosystem in the world. John has also held senior leadership roles developing and deploying wireless technologies at AT&T Wireless, Bell Northern Research, Netro Corp and Nortel.

John earned a Doctorate, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering from McMaster University, Canada and holds six US Patents in wireless technologies. In 2017, he was appointed to the Broadband Deployment Advisory Committee by the FCC Chairman. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Spectrum Effect, a pioneer in RF spectrum analytics; and he is on the advisory board of the Global TDD Initiative (GTI), an international industry consortium.

In his spare time, John enjoys sucking at golf, skiing around pesky snowboarders and hiking with his wife, Diane.
