Melik C. Demirel has a long and varied work experience. Melik C. began their career in 1998 as a Researcher at Carnegie Mellon University. Melik C. then moved to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Intramural Research Program (IRP) in the same role. In 2001, they became a Researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratory. In 2004, they were appointed a von Humboldt fellow in the molecular biology department at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry. In 2010, they took a Sabbatical Leave at Harvard and MIT as a Visiting Scholar. In 2017, they Co-Founded Tandem Repeat. In 2022, they became a Scientific Advisor at Mimotype Technologies GmbH. Melik C. currently holds the Lloyd and Dohorty Huck Chair in Biomimetic Materials at Penn State University.
Melik C. Demirel received their PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University between 1999 and 2002. Prior to that, they obtained their MS/BS in Engineering from Boğaziçi University between 1992 and 1998.
