Somyi Baek

Somyi Baek is a seasoned data scientist with extensive experience in sustainability, financial services, and academic research. Currently serving as the Lead Data Scientist at Target since July 2022, Somyi focuses on sustainability initiatives. Prior roles include Assistant Vice President and Data Scientist at U.S. Bank, and a Research Assistant at the University of Minnesota, where innovative solutions for dynamical systems and energy balance models were developed. Notably, Somyi completed data science internships at Cargill and Ecolab, where analytical skills were applied to commodity price prediction and rare events classification, respectively. Somyi's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Mathematics and a Master's in Applied Mathematics from the University of Minnesota, complemented by a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Stockton University.
