Derek Watring

Derek Watring is a seasoned software engineer with extensive experience in developing innovative technology solutions. Currently, as a Senior Software Engineer at tastytrade since October 2021, Derek is focused on greenfielding new products. Previously, at dough from November 2018 to October 2021, Derek served as the Lead Front End Engineer, overseeing product and web development for an industry-disrupting online brokerage firm. Derek also held roles at tastyworks, Edward Jones, and The Dow Chemical Company, gaining expertise in full-stack development, web applications, and project management. Notably, during an internship at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Derek led a research team that earned a first-place award for work on engineered bacteriophages. Derek holds a degree in Agricultural and Biological Engineering with a focus on Renewable Energy Systems from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
