Additionally, Novikov has academic experience as a lecturer at Tallinn Technical University and holds a Ph.D. in Financial Economy from Tallinn University of Technology.

Tallinn Business Bank was founded in December of 1991 and at present it is one of the oldest commercial banks operating in the Estonian Republic. Both legal entities and private individuals are among shareholders of the bank. Tallinn Business Bank has two offices (the main office included) located in Tallinn, and in addition a branch in Narva. Since the very beginning the bank has focused in its operation mainly on small and middle-sized enterprises as well as private individuals. The bank is rendering all basic financial and banking services, deals with precious metals included. Tallinn Business Bank is a full member of MasterCard International organization. The bank issues for customers two types of Maestro debit cards and three different types of MasterCard credit cards. Lately the Bank has started to render combined services including settlements and crediting for goods and commodities exchange between the Estonian enterprises and their foreign partners in EC, Ukraine, Russia and USA. The bank is also active in lending and leasing business with agricultural enterprises, complex financing for commercial, industrial and construction companies. Customers of the bank are offered to place their money into long-term time deposits of different types both in the Euro and foreign currency. The bank has introduced beneficial interest rates and service charges for certain groups of customers. Private banking services provide more individual approach for a customer.
