Rick Turoczy is a serial entrepreneur and investor with a long history of involvement in the Portland, Oregon startup community. In 2009, they cofounded and served as General Manager of PIE (Portland Incubator Experiment), an ongoing experiment designed to explore how established organizations can collaborate with startup communities. In 2014, they cofounded Built Oregon, a mission to support and accelerate founders and companies throughout the state. In 2007, they founded Silicon Florist, a publication covering the Portland tech startup and open source community.
In 2021, Rick joined the Board of Directors for the Startup Champions Network, and also became a Mentor and Investor for Backstage Capital, a Scout and Investor for the Calm Company Fund, and an Advisor for Business for a Better Portland. Rick also serves as a Cofounder and Advisor for TechfestNW, a Cofounder of Return, and a Board Member for the Oregon Games Organization (OGO).
Rick Turoczy attended Twin Falls High School from 1986 to 1989, where they pursued a college preparatory curriculum. Rick then attended Whitman College from 1989 to 1993, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts in English.
